HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE! I hope you are all getting ready for Memorial Day weekend! Please be sure to remember our troops, both from the past and who are currently serving our country, for all the hard work and sacrifices they have made to keep this land called America safe and secure! I will be heading back home this weekend to another Burgh (Greensburg that is) to celebrate the holiday with some friends and family. There is a BBQ on the horizon and my knife and fork are ready for action!
Speaking of food, I have a lot to get to in this post about some pretty bangin’ creations I came up with using Beyond Organic Beef Hot Dogs and sweet potatoes, but before we even get to the food, let’s work up our appetites!
I made a long overdue fitness purchase at REI at the South Side Works last night (a whopping 4 blocks or so from my apartment). With the weather outside getting more and more gorgeous, I wanted to train outdoors just to get some fresh air. Those of you familiar with Kettlebells or Primal Fitness in general should know that barefoot training does amazing things for the body. It increases your balance and teaches your body what I will call “proper alignment” head to toe. You will stand taller and feel stronger with barefoot training, guaranteed! However, when you venture out doors for barefoot training, you may find that the terrain you train on is less than easy on the sols of your feet. The solution? Vibram Five Fingers. Here’s the pair I got below!
I Purchased the Komodo Sport style of Vibram’s. These babies are perfect for cross training. They are ideal for heavy lifting, sprinting, and even going for runs right on the pavement (not that I run, but if I ever decided to I can do it properly now). The grip on these shoes is perfect. Prior to this purchase, I was using worn down Chuck Taylor’s or some pretty old sandals to work out outside. I would be sliding all over the place which did, on a few occasions, leave me with some terrible low back pain after a work out. Not cool! Not cool at all! However, I will say that the sliding no longer occurs with these shoes and that makes me one happy comrade. Interested in today’s RKC prep workout? Check out this insane routine below!
RKC Swing and Snatch Ladder
10 right arm swings transitioning into 5 right arm snatches. Swing the bell to switch arms and complete 10 left arm swings transitioning into 5 left arms snatches. Following this routine protocol, work your way down the ladder as follows:
9 swings per arm and 6 snatches per arm
8 swings per arm and 7 snatches per arm
7 swings per arm and 8 snatches per arm.
6 swings per arm and 9 snatches per arm.
5 swings per arm and 10 snatches per arm.
Total work completed in this routine: 45 right arms swings with 45 right arm snatches. 45 left arm swings with 45 left arm snatches. I completed this in 10 minutes. Going to work on my time for next week!
Now, we all know we must eat after our HIIT training, so comrades, prepare to see some seriously fun foodie creations I whipped up! If you don’t know this by now, I am a DIE HARD FAN of Beyond Organic food products. This company delivers grass fed beef and raw dairy products right to your front door! This week, I had a lot of fun with the Beyond Organic hot dogs. Before I let you see exactly what I created, I just wanted to note that the taste of these beef franks are absolutely superb! The hot dogs have a nice little sweet and spicy flavor to them. They are perfect for taking to your tailgating party or even your more low key cook out. I highly recommend these little beef links! Remember, if you sign up as a preferred customer at Beyond Organic, you will receive your order at a 20% discount. That means more grass freed beef and dairy for you! Also, should you decide to upgrade to a mission marketer, you then have the luxury of the 20% discount while making a nice little income on the side (email me for details if you are interested at redeemed626@gmail.com). It’s a win win folks!
Ok, now the moment you have all been waiting for. Ladies and Gentlemen of the fitness and foodie world, I would like to present to you my Double Dog Madness! ENJOY!
Yep! I really am that weird! 😉
I had some left over sweet potatoes that I baked up on my oven and decided to mash up. I have a pretty awesome recipe for mashed sweet potatoes that I am finally going to release to the general public. This recipe is in high demand, and that isn’t’ a lie. To date, everyone who has tried this recipe has begged me for the recipe, and I always refused. Today, you lucky readers get the inside scoop on my secret recipe. I hope you love it as much as everyone else! I should note, I like my mashed sweet potatoes on the slightly more chunky side, so this recipe can be adjusted to suit your needs.
Burgher’s Bangin’ Mashed Sweet Potatoes
4 sweet potatoes
1/2 cup pecans
1 -2 tsp ginger
1-2 tsp cinnamon
1-2 teaspoons mint flakes
Bake the sweet potatoes in a 400 degree oven for about 45 minutes. Let them cool then peal them right out of the skin into a mixing bowl. Chop the pecans so they look like tiny little pecan bits. Add them to the potatoes along with the above spices and mash everything together. You end up with a sweet, spiced, and slightly buttery tasting sweet potato mash. YUM!
As for how I plated everything together with the left over franks I had, well… take a look below!
That about sums it all up for me! I hope yinz guys have a fantastic weekend! Expect more food and fitness fun next week once I return from my three days away from Da Burgh. Remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle
