I have touched ont his subject before, this subject of how to fuel yourself for highly demanding exercises. I am bringing this up again only because I have learned some hard lessons in the past from not eating sufficiently for high volume exercise. Don’t believe me? Well, be sure to read this article that summarizes it all!
Now, let me first start off by saying that I am not a certified nutritionist so I cannot make recommendations on specific meal plans for training purposes. HOWEVER, I happen to be a conditioned athletes following a particularly paleo diet, so my nutritional needs are more …shall we say….”picky”. I’m going to release macronutrient profile for yinz to see how I ate on a training day last week. I should note, this macronutrient breakdown was based on a workout consisting of the 5 minute RKC snatch test followed by heavy swing practice (5 rounds of 20 two arm 24 kg swings). All things considered, this was NOT an insanely demanding workout for me, which a) is somewhat scary when I realize that and b) should serve as an adequate example of how I regularly eat when working out.
As you can see, I have a pretty hefty protein and fat load while maintaining moderate carbohydrate consumption. Speaking of carbohydrates, I think that is one area I could have improved on this particular day. I have been logging my food more regularly now as I want to ensure that I am getting enough of everything I need for high volume exercise. Clocking at 95 grams, my carb load for this day may have been slightly lower than I needed (oh no! I said “carbs”! But hey, you have to increase those too if you want to sustain your workouts. Just sayin!). I am basing that on how I felt. I felt fairly energized, but not optimal. No problem though, as I recently found a life saver of a snack that is loaded with health fats, proteins, and carbohydrate sources that are perfect for the hardcore paleo athlete.
Beyond Organic recently came out with a line of gluten free granloa that I am ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH! Currently, I am munching on the EA-Live Dark Chocolate Granola. This stuff is packed with a blend of chia, pumpkin, flax, hemp and sesame seeds that are mixed with a blend of yummy spices and, not to mentioned, dunked in a nice bit of raw chocolate. If you are looking for something to snack on to keep yourself fueled for a great workout, this stuff is IT!
If we take a look at the nutritional label, we see that the EA Live Foods Granola from Beyond Organic is a nutritionally dense food. Clocking in at 310 calories per service (much needed when ou train hard like me 😉 ) Beyond Organic’s Live Granola is packed with healthy fats, 24 grams of carbohydrates, and even the added bonus of protein to sustain your workouts and keep you ready to train harder. This is a no brainer paleo snack for someone who requires more nutrition for life, training, and the daily life of training! 🙂 Be sure to get a stash of your own granola here! Falvors range form dark chocolate, cinnamon raisin, ginger coconut and sweet greens. NOMZ!
Remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
