Perhaps one of the most neglected areas of health and wellness is that of the inner search. If we don’t’ know who we are, what we want, and how we can go about achieving the goal we wish to reach, we really are at a loss for how to even start our journey towards long lasting health. This was ever more true for myself last week, as a number of things in my personal life popped up so quickly that I needed to take time (an entire WEEK actually), to lay all the cards on the table, pray, and find out what is is I could do to truly live out my life’s call and purpose. Sometimes, taking time out for you is the first step to long lasting success. Today, I want to talk about the three keys you need to unlock your potential and achieve success. This post today will actually be a lee-way into a threefold blog series next week on how to make all those “impossible things” become real life possibilities and realities. If you’re ready to dive head first into dramatically changing your health for the better, keep reading. We’re about to dig deep, get our hands dirty, and ask some tough questions!
Question Number 1: Who Are You?
Ask anybody you know who they are, and they most certainly will begin with what seems like a laundry list of things that they do. I asked a friend of mine recently the “who are you?” question, and she immediately began telling me about how she was a graduate student, an athlete, a musician, how she volunteered for her local church, and the list when on and on. I ended up having to stop my friend and say “These are things that you do. I want to know who you are.” I wasn’t surprised by how dumbfounded she was in conversation with me, and I politely began to point out that what we do really is only a taste of who we are on the inside. I have a fun exercise I do with friends at times, and that exercise has nothing to do with lifting. It has to do with looking up the meaning of your name, and finding out how your very name reveals a sense of who you are currently. Try it! Look up the meaning of your name and thinking about how your life reveals who you are as defined by your very name.
Question Number 2: What Do You Want?
You need to know what you are wishing to achieve in life before you ever set out to achieve it. Taking time to write out EXACTLY what you want is vital to your success. Last week I took some time to write down in my journal (yeah, I still journal outside of the blog) specific things I wanted to accomplish for my health, my business, and my personal life over the course of the next few years. Writing down all the specifics made my thoughts come to life on paper. Sometimes, you need to physically see, in some fashion, what it is you are exactly trying to accomplish in your life. Keeping all those tense and stressed out feelings bottled up inside.. .it can make you burst out at the wront time for the wrong reason. Ask yourself, what do you want? Do you want to lose 20 pounds in 3 months? Do you want to be able to train for a marathon? Write it down and get as specific as possible. It will help you get to the answer of the third important question you must ask yourself.
Question Number 3: Where Do You Want to Go ?
When you know who you are and what you want to do, the last question you need to ask yourself is where you want to go in life? What do you want to achieve with the career you want? Where do you see yourself in 3,5, or even 10 years? Where do you want to be physically in even a 3,6, or 12 month period when it comes to your physique and/or athletic goals? When you identify specifically where you want to go in life, you’ll have a clear cut goal in mind to look ahead towards. All you need to get to your destination then is a set of steps to get you there. Should you need help along the way and in need of directions, never feel weary about asking for help.
And that’s where this blog will pick up for next week, that whole setting up the help to identify who you are, what you want, and where you want to go with your fitness journey. Take some time this weekend and think about the answers to these questions posed above for yourself. Next week, we are going to dig even deeper to reach long lasting success with our health! Stay tuned!
Have a great weekend everyone! Until next time. . .
