It’s Friday, and while many of you are gathering around gearing up for the weekend, I wanted to take the time to talk about determining exactly what you want when it comes to your health. When I sit down with people for their free consultations at Primal Fitness Pittsburgh, I tend to drill the person on what they are looking for in terms their overall health. What I often hear is the usual “I want to lose weight” or ” I want to put on some muscle” or “I want to feel more energetic”. While these goals are well and good, they are not as truly specific as they need to be.
Let’s dig a little deeper here.
Let’s take the weight loss scenario. Losing weight may be a primary concern for you, but let’s talk about WHY the weight loss is a concern. Is being overweight hindering your quality of movement? Do you have joint pain, difficulty getting up and down stairs? Do you suffer from high blood pressure and wish to see your numbers drop? These are examples of getting into the specifics of why losing weight is important, and of course, there is also the aesthetics too. Listing out why you need to lose weight and also getting a sense of exactly how much you wish to lose will help you determine exactly what you are looking to achieve in your fitness program for the long term.
The same rule applies for gaining muscle or being more energetic. Ask yourself, why is this important to me? Get as specific as possible and write down why those qualities are important to you. The more specific you become about what you want, the more detailed and structured you can be about creating a plan of attack to achieve those goals.
On Monday, we are going to take the who we are and what we want pieces and put them together to determine exactly where we want go for our health. Stay tuned and be sure to check out our latest program, the Primal Plan, here!
Until next time. . .
