I have received a plethora of emails lately regarding the subject of training for a level 1 kettlebell certification. I have decided to take it upon myself to address this subject publicly for those of you who are ready to commit to a greater level of training. Since I have been given the nickname of “The Queen of Kettlebells” in the Greater City of Pittsburgh, I figured I’d spend some time today discussing the ins and outs of level 1 preparation and what you can expect when you train for your certification.
First up, there are a number of kettlebell certifications out there and it can be kind of confusing to decide where you want to get certified and what organization you want to obtain your certification from. I am a very unusual instructor who has put time, effort, lots of dollars, and an extreme level of dedication towards my kettlebell career. To date, I am certified with two of the worlds most well-respected kettlebell organizations and actively pursue my education through the both of them. I am a Level II RKC and also a Level 1 SFG and I am currently working on my level II SFG certification with a tentative test date in April, 2016. There is now a third organization that has caught my attention when it comes to kettlebell training and it deserves a shout out here (and who knows? Perhaps later in my life I’ll add that to my list of kettlebell certs :-D) . Please click the following links and review the testing standards under the following organizations.
Level 1 RKC by Dragon Door: Testing Standards and Certification Dates
Level 1 SFG by StrongFirst: Testing Standards and Certification Dates
Strength Matters level 1 Kettlebell Certification by Strength Matters: Testing Standards and Certification Dates
These three organizations have demanding testing standards and are instructed by some of the worlds strongest and most intelligent instructors in the fitness industry. Preparing for your level 1 certification (as I’m sure you are now aware of having read the information above) is hard. There’s no sugar coating this. If you are seriously considering training for this event, please bare in mind that you are signing up for what I often call “The Marathon of Kettlebell Training”. You will expect 8-9 hours of olympic style lifting over the course of a 3 day seminar. You will also have written evaluations to take as well as teaching requirements and physical tests to perform. I trained for my level 1 certification for an entire year and a half before even registering for the event. I realize that might sound like a very long time, but taking the time to train for your certification is important. You cannot rush strength nor can you rush the process of getting strong. Patience is a virtue after all 😉
If you’ve read this far down the blog and are still interested in training for your certification but need a coach, please feel free to reach out. I am working with a number of people now who are training for their certification and would LOVE to be of service to you as well. If you are not local to Pittsburgh, no problemo! I do have distance coaching spots available at this time and would love nothing more than getting you to your goals. For all private training inquiries, please email me directly at janelle@primalfitnesspittsburgh.com with the subject line “Private Coaching”. I will respond to you within a 24 hour period.
I hope this clears up the level 1 training bit for you all! Now. . .let’s get you to work! 😉
