Nerd Alert: What you are about to read has a lot to do with philosophy, psychology, and the connection those two things have on your very own health.
I have found myself reading more and more dense philosophical works lately, and I blame that mostly on the fact that I have a knack for such texts. Having studied Theology in graduate school for 2.5 years at Saint Vincent Seminary, I cannot help but find myself face down in books like “Truth and Tolerance” by Carl Ratzinger (former Pope Benedict) and, most recently, a more challenging work by Neville Goddard, called “At Your Command”. Today, I would like to draw your attention to the very concept presented in Goddard’s piece, “At Your Command”, and challenge you to bring your own fitness and health goals into this line of thinking.
The Idea That Will Dramatically Reshape Your Health
“You have become so enmeshed in the belief that you are a limited man, that you have forgotten the glorious being that you are. Now, with your memory restored, DECREE the unseen to appear, and it SHALL appear, for all things are compelled to respond to the Voice of God, Your awareness of being– the world is AT YOUR COMMAND!”- Neville Goddard
Limitations. Fears. Life’s intermittent difficulties. Neville draws and interesting parallel to the biblical story of Daniel in the lion’s den. According to Neville, “Lions” here represent extreme circumstances that threaten your livelihood. For Daniel, in order to overcome such circumstances, he simply turned his back on these lions and focussed on the light coming from above. The lion’s remained powerless, and Daniel’s Faith in God was what saved him from the den.The suggestion Neville makes here is that if we, the common man, did as Daniel did and turned our attention to that which we seek IN THE MIDST OF our own lion’s den (sickness, debt, bereavement, you name it), our faith shall bring it to fruition.
Bringing Neville’s Principle To Life
A few days ago I found a letter that was left on my work desk at the studio. It was a testimonial written by one of my clients, who was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. Her doctors had mistakenly over medicated her too for a number of years, and she was told that she would not be able to exercise beyond certain constraints and limitations. She was told that her life would be dependent on one cholesterol medication after another, and that she would NOT be able to lose weight like the rest of the population due to her physical condition. She found herself in her own lion’s den, but willingly focussed on that which she wished to come to fruition. Today, I would like to share my client’s story with you. Read on!
“I first discovered Janelle a couple of days after my cardiology appointment. It was at this appointment that I found out that I was actually over medicated for a year or more. It was an accident in us finding out what had happened after my doctor went over all of my cholesterol medications for the second time. I remember going home so pissed and even more determined to get off my cholesterol medications… ALL of them.
As I was searching for a new gym, I found Janelle. She had written a blog post at the time about how one of her other clients had came to see her due to feeling like her own doctors were not listening to her either. I related to that so much I decided to meet with Janelle a few short days later. The timing of the post was too perfect for me NOT to meet up with her.
Within a year and a half…
I lost over 40 pounds and lost 4 pant sizes. I lowered my cholesterol and no longer require my cholesterol medications. My heart function improved. I gained serious strength and mobility too via kettlebells.
I am writing this to thank Janelle for everything she has done for me. My health has been improved more than she will ever know. I only wished she could have been with me to see the face of my cardiologist when he did my recent follow up stress test and lab work. I passed my test with flying colors and my doctor no longer needs to prescribe my medications because my blood work came back perfectly normal.
When I first started training with Janelle, I often wondered what I got myself in to. At the end of the day when my fear faded and my sweat was washed away from my workouts, I ended up feeling better and better session after session.
You will be able to do things you never thought you could do before. Your body will thank you. My hope for you is that you come out stronger than you did before when you first came in for your initial session, because that is exactly what I experienced myself.
Thanks for everything Janelle!”
A Test of Your Faith
I have spent today dissecting the very concept of speaking your life into it’s very existence. Today, I would like to go a bit further and challenge you to believe that you already are exactly who you wish to become. No matter what kins of lions are in your den (be it sickness, being over weight, stuck in a job working long hours that disrupt your exercise times), turn your back on them all and focus on that which is good. For the next 30 days, believe that you ARE exactly who you wish to BECOME> Believe that you are the athlete, the person with a clear bill of heath, the person that has al the time in the world to eat smart and train hard. Believe that you have already achieved your goals, and watch over the next 30 days how your entire health shifts for the better.
Your health is at your command!
Press on!
