It has been an exhausting week here in Pittsburgh, and I say that in reference to the past seven days here in the city. Having just returned from the first ever Serenity and Strength Retreat in Asheville, NC, I spent the majority of my week reviewing the very notes I had taken on part of myself and the attendees at the retreat. The Serenity and Strength Retreat was truly one of it’s kind, and I encourage you all to join the mailing list here to keep up to date with all the developments on next year’s event in Asheville.
The biggest takeaway from this years retreat was identifying our core beliefs about ourselves, and developing our strength the moment we realize our potential to be the strong, powerful, healthy individuals we conceive ourselves to be. I know, I know. That sounds very “brainy”, but identifying who you are, what you want out of life, and how your purpose will guide you to where you want to go in life the very are the very first steps to developing your strength. This entire concept that was taught at the retreat was a teaching point I had learned from David Whitley, author of the book “Superhuman You”. That concept is very simple: “we become what we think about.” If you believe you are strong, you can become strong. What I was personally curious about was how quickly this mental exercise could lead to some personal lifting records.
Here’s a prime example.
A member of the retreat came down form New York City in an effort to find her center. As an avid athlete, this incredible woman was searching to learn and refine her current strength. I am all about the kettlebell military press, and so was this particular attendee. Within a day of tapping into her beliefs, and having her identify with how strong she believed herself to be, she went form only ever pressing a 16kg to pressing a 22kg. 1 DAY AND A NEW PR, FROM CHANGING A BELIEF SYSTEM!
I would like to challenge you today, dear reader. Who do you believe you are? What do you believe about yourself? Do you view yourself as a strong, powerful person? Do you believe that yourself to be weak, a victim of the circumstances around you, powerless to supersede those elements to unleash your strength? Do you believe you are as strong as you think? Do you see your ability to rise above circumstances and live the life of your dreams?
What you believe about yourself matters, for those very beliefs will strengthen you or destroy you, especially with regards to your fitness goals and personal strength.
Get out there and hit some personal records folks, and do watch for some training updates here on the blog! I have a brand new project on my hands that WILL requires some help from you all. I am so thankful for your support in this matter! Remember, the moment you believe you are strong enough to do something, you tap into your strength to do the very thing task you set your mind to do.
What you believe about yourself matters, for those very beliefs will strengthen you or destroy you, especially with regards to your fitness goals and personal strength.
Press on!
