Ok ok ok! It isn’t quite Christmas yet, but I am already excited for this new year to kick off! Last week I spent a majority of my own time wrapping up my own new writing pieces and working ahead on the new VIP monthly coaching program to launch next week! Taking the time to booker down and focus helped me discover where I am headed in the coming year, and the time I took gave me some serious perspective as I looked at the bigger picture of my own training, business, and future.
Phew! 2016 was a roller coaster for me! It’s been a wild year on part of my business. Lots of travel, lots of tough decisions to make, lots of long hours and lots of self discovery. It can be hard at times to see the bigger picture of where our life is destined to go (and that is especially true when it seems like we have 10 million things happening at once), but that is the beauty of taking a step back to look at the bigger picture of our lives. When you take the time to see the foundation you have laid down for yourself, you’ll see how that foundation can keep you moving forward as you cross your bridge towards success.
Of course, that begs the question as to whether a proper foundation has been laid in the first place.
New Years resolutions come to mind here. This is the time of the year where gym memberships sky rocket, people begin their new diets, and those kick-your-butt training programs you see on TV sell like crazy. Fine. All well and good. I am in no way suggesting that the desires of people what want to change their health for the better are ill-intentioned when they register for the aforementioned things. However, how often do you see people “falling off the wagon” of the very healthy goals they set for themselves within a matter of weeks after starting? Why does that happen?
Too much change too quickly without properly laying a healthy foundation results in the crash-and-burn effect. You may not be able to keep up that rigid meal plan that was handed to you. You may feel overly exhausted from too much intense exercise that was not scaled to your current level of fitness. Frustration ensues. Self doubt takes hold. Crash! Burn! The end!
You may have experienced this before yourself. I’m sure we all have on some level at some point in our life as we start to take change habits for the better. My question to you today is where your current foundation has been laid.
Are you brand spanking new in the fitness world and are looking to lose weight? What tangible goals have you set for yourself on this journey? Why are those goals so important?
Are you looking to set an out of this world personal record for one of your favorite lifts? How have you set up your training for this goal? Why does this matter to you so much?
Most importantly, how strong is your current foundation, and what can you do to keep building it up to lead you to your destination over time?
Building a bridge doesn’t happen overnight, and they most certainly are not built alone. It takes time, effort, hard work and dedication to get us to the other end of our journey. What is important is having support, surrounding ourselves with other strong people who can help us lay that foundation for ourselves and build us up over the course of our expedition to health. That is where the real fun happens!
