Welcome back to Primalburgher.com! I hope you’re weekend was filled with some fitness and foodie fun like mine! I would like to make a special shout out to Norwood’s Restaurant and Wine Shop for a fabulous evening out on New Smyrna Beach. I had a mouth watering primal desert there (which was really supposed to be an appetizer but HEY! I’m weird!) that consisted of bacon wrapped sea scallops on a bed of seaweed salad and drizzled with a pomegranate glaze. Yeah…that’s how I do dessert. I’m telling you though, this was delicious! If you’re ever around the Smyrna beach area, check out Norwood’s Restaurant and Wine Shop. It’s a perfect paleo find!
Speaking of paleo, this blog post is all about Diane Sanfilippo’s new book titled “Practical Paleo”. Take a look at what this foodie guide looks like below!
Now, this book is LOADED with nutritional information. That should come as no surprise to you as Diane is a certified nutritionist who specializes in all things Paleo (you can read more about her certifications and nutritional counseling services at balancedbites.com). The book is separated into three major sections. Part 1 of the book is titled “The Why-Food and Your Body”. In Part 1 of Practical paleo, you will learn everything you need to know about the three macronutrients (fats, proteins and carbohydrates) and how they function in your body. There are also incredibly helpful guides to stocking your paleo pantry as well as guides for cooking fats, shopping at grocery stores, and what to do to maintain your paleo public image when dining out. Diane also goes out of her way to explain how the digestive system works and how chronic inflammatory conditions can be indicative of digestive distress. Finally, Diane outlines the problems caused by gluten sensitivity and spends some time answering some of the most common questions related to switching over into a paleo diet.
Fun side note: there is a lot of crazy crap in this section of the book. I am saying that for a reason. When you get “Practical Paleo” by Diane Sanfilippo, you’ll know exactly what I am talking about. 😉
Part 2 of Practical Paleo is titled “Meal Plans”. This section isn’t just a 30 day guide for the average paleo person. Diane actually went out of her way and designed meal plans for people with particular health problems or physical goals. You’ll find dietary guidelines for conditions like Parkinson’s disease, cancer recovery, or my personal favorite, Thyroid health (you can read about my own bout of autoimmune thyroiditis by going to the about me section on this blog). There is also something I found VERY helpful in this section. For those of you who train ridiculously hard like I do with kettlebells, you will find a 30 day meal plan to enhance your athletic performance.
This meal plan has really caught my attention as my training is becoming more and more demanding as time goes on, and I have often wondered if I am eating well enough to sustain the load of my workouts. If you are a serious athlete like me, pay close attention to this section. It’s incredibly informative!
Ok, we have now come to Part 3 of Practical Paleo, and this section is titled “Recipes”. This section is INTENSE! In fact, Part 3 of Practical Paleo is so intense, I had to make a YouTube video for it. Ladies and gentlemen, without further adieu, take a look at what you’re going to get when you purchase your copy of Diane Sanfiilippo’s new book, Practical Paleo.
Oh man, are you as excited as I am about this book?
This book gets a five-star rating from me. The nutritional information, though it is very dense, is broken down into an easy to read fashion for everyone to comprehend. Diane is truly gifted with taking difficult subject matters and breaking them down into concepts that anyone would be able to understand. The 30 day meal plans for certain conditions and fitness goals are also helpful if you’re interested in disease prevention or enhancing your athletic performance. Finally, the recipes in here are PHENOMENAL! If you love cooking and need some healthy inspiration for your kitchen, please, GO BUY THIS BOOK! Practical Paleo is practically the best book hitting the market that explains the nuts and bolts of Paleo Nutrition as well as providing you with a roadmap for success in terms of your health! The book will be released August 7th. Be sure to get your copy here!
That sums it up for me today! Remember to always eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle
