Hey everybody! It’s Friday, and I have decided to make this blog post more about enjoying your life. I have been talking a lot about fitness, Beyond Organic, and the INSANE heat here in Pittsburgh lately. Also, I fessed up to not sleeping right over the past few weeks (caffeine reduction is still going well, thanks for asking. Oh! And averaging a solid 8 hours a night now. So far so good!). Today, I just want to have some fun with something I love very much: FOOD!
I mean really, who doesn’t love food?
I was randomly at Giant Eagle the other day picking up some last minute items before my vacation that’s coming up (I leave next week. SO EXCITED!) I have a lot of Beyond Organic greenfed beef left over that I made ahead of time to last me throughout next week (those crock pot stuffed peppers I made really do stretch out over time. NICE TIME SAVER!) While picking up some last minute bits of produce, I stumbled upon a foodie find: Raw Cheese. Check out what I found below!
Now, this struck my interest as I am an avid believer in the nutritional value of raw dairy. Not to mention, this foodie find caughattentiont my because I am a heavy consumer of Beyond Organic Raw Cheese. What I decided to do was get the raw cheddar cheese from Organic Valley and see how it matched up to the cheddar cheese from Beyond Organic. So, here’s my honest comparison of the two cheeses.
First, a word on the taste. Organic Valley’s raw cheddar cheese definitely has a “sharper” cheddar taste to it. To be frank, it’s actually quite pungent. Now, if you really like a pungent, “hardcore” cheddar cheese, then Organic Valley will certainly entice your taste buds. However, I am more of a mild cheddar kind of gal, so I find that Beyond Organic’s raw cheddar is actually more appealing to me. In all honesty, Organic Valley’s raw cheddar can be a little unbearable by how “sharp” the flavor is, but if that’s how you like your cheese, then that’s how you like your cheese. This may come down to personal preference between what your taste buds prefer over mine, but HEY! That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it!
Now, let’s get down to the issues of cost and convenience. As you’ll see above, 8 oz of this Organic Valley cheese will be $8.99. 1 lb then gets you to $17.98. Now, if Beyond Organic sold their cheese by the pound, you’d actually get it for $15.00 with a preferred membership and it would be shipped right to your door (not having to wait in irritating lines in the grocery store is a huge bonus for me. Honestly, I HATE shopping!). However, Beyond Organic sells their cheese at 2lb increments. That isn’t a bad thing since the average person will be able to stretch this amount of food out over time (unless you’re like me and eat like a Pittsburgh Steeler. God, I wish I was joking.).With that in mind, Organic Valley will now reach $35.96 plus the gas to get to the store and the aggravation of listening to screaming children as you wait in line at the check out. With Beyond Organic, you’ll get $2lb of cheese for $30 with a preferred membership and have this stuff shipped straight to your door for a shipping and handling fee of $5.00.
Ok, so that’s a savings of roughly $1.00 unless you count your commute to the store (and you should, because gas isn’t cheap these days. That’s real talk, ya heard?). Factor in your gas bill, and I think you’ll see what I’m talking about here. And again, not having to listen to screaming children in line at the store means you are a happier you. Just sayin’!
So that’s my cheesy spiel! I hope this was helpful for you all and I hope this was honest enough of a review. I’d really like to see you guys try the Beyond Organic raw cheeses and their other products for yourself. If you do try the products and sign up for your preferred membership, let me know what you think by sending me an email at redeemed626@gmail.com. I’d love to hear from you!
That’s all I have for yinz today! Be on the lookout for next weeks primal journey’s in Pittsburgh. It’ll be my last week in the city before I fly out for some much needed time off. As always, remember to eat smart, train hard and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle
