Happy Monday to yinz! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to get started for this weeks blog series. This week is a HUGE week for all us paleo peeps here in Pittsburgh! If you are not in Pittsburgh this weekend YOU NEED TO GET HERE! Friend and fellow Burgher Jill Ciciarelli has come out with an INCREDIBLE book titled “Fermented”, and she is hosting a book signing this Friday to celebrate her success! (And Jill, CONGRATULATIONS!). Seriously folks, you don’t want to miss the event! More details to come on that, but for now, let’s kick off this week of fermented fun with a look inside Pittsburgh’s very own Kombucha Brewery!
On Saturday, I traveled to the Red Star Brewery to pick up my beloved Kombucha.
Kombucha is a fermented tea that dates back as far as 415 CE. It is said that Kombucha was known as “the tea of immortality”, and having taken a look at the specs of this fermented beverage, I can understand why Kombucha was given such a title. Packed with antioxidants and probiotics, this refreshing drink is packs an immune boosting punch! What’s even better is that Red Star Brewery has taken this tea and fermented it with a lot of Burgh love!
Red Star has three flavors available for purchase. There is Original Green (green tea flavored), Zingerbuch (ginger flavored tea) and their 1877 blend (black tea and lemon flavored. It’s like an effervescent lemonade!) All flavors are 100% organic and gluten free too! HOLLA! I have become a HUGE FAN of the Zingerbuch blend, but I think that has something to do with being a red head 😉 All joking aside though, if you are in the Greater City of Pittsburgh, make sure you stop on over at Red Star Brewery! The Buch is always brewing at this local shop! You can purchase 4 packs to go or get your Buch in  keg for your back yard paleo cook out!
Thanks for visiting the blog today everyone! Remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle Pica, RKC
