Welcome back to the blog! It’s Tuesday, and while I normally preface the very title of my posts on Tuesday’s as “Tough Love Tuesday”, the name of this post really needs no other introduction. Having wrapped up a number of meetings, intense conversations, and moving back into the “real world” after nearly a month on leave, I have had a lot of time on my hands to look at the facts of my own life and really discern how healthy and strong I want to be moving forward into the new year (ok so January is a ways away, but I like to thinking about where I’ll be in the next 90ish days. I’m a goal setter and a dreamer 😀 ). The past month has been an eye-opening experience for me (to say the least), and while I have mentioned where I was in a previous post, I want to focus not so much on my past and what lead me to make the decisions I had to make, but rather use my experiences to help YOU, dear reader, deal with the hard dose of reality you may be facing yourself.
The hardest dose of reality I had to swallow over the past 3 years of my life was that I had tried all too hard to prove to other people that I was one of the strongest people on the planet. True, I am an unusually strong people, but strength to me has more to do anymore with making sure my body is healthy in every aspect day in and day out. Trust me, dealing with the grips of a major health problem and seeing just how your body reacts (if not shuts down) is quite eye-opening. For me, it would mean no longer denying the fact that I as powerless over a problem, and that I needed guidance to overcome the biggest obstacle of my life (and this is a decision I have to make each day, one day at a time). As of lately, I have had a number of former clients, close friends, and colleagues come out of the water to talk to me about my struggles, but more importantly, their own.
“I know I have a problem. Please pray for me. ” <— I cannot tell you how many times i have heard this sentence in the past 2 weeks of being home. Anymore, I have been hearing the stories of other people’s “Rock Bottoms” when it comes to their own health, and I think there is a lot of restoration and healing that comes when we finally admit we have sunken to the lowest of lows.
There is great power in admitting you are powerless. Admitting weakness can start you on the path to total restoration and ultimately, true strength.
The question you have to ask yourself today is what does your rock bottom look like? For many when it comes to their own health, it may start with a hard dose of reality. For some, this means accepting that they may have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes or are pre-diabetic and need to take control of their diet, medications, and lifestyle to manage symptoms. For some, this means starting with very little physical strength and starting a program to train for bigger lifting competitions down the road with the guidance of a great coach. For some, this means accepting that they are currently overweight, and that they must start to take the right steps to lose said weight so they do not suffer needlessly from the aforementioned health conditions. Again, this can come down to hiring a coach and following up with the appropriate health care providers.
A hard dose of reality can be your biggest game changer.
What’s your health challenge today? What seems to be your own personal bottom when it comes to getting the healthy and strong body you deserve? Have you hit a rock bottom? what does that bottom look like for you? Most importantly, what can you start doing TODAY to take your hard dose of reality seriously, and begin to move in the right direction to wellness?
