Welcome to another Monday with yours truly, The Primal Burgher! I hope you all had a great weekend and area ready to take on a great new week. I have a week off training and working here so I will be able to update you all with some fun new adventures I am planning. Get ready! Yinz ain’t seen nothing yet!
Speaking of adventures, I decided to take some time off studying for my NASM exam yesterday and explore my neighborhood of the South Side. I wrote in a previous blog post that the South Side is becoming more of a Paleo friendly community, and as of yesterday, I was given another taste of how friendly this wonderful neighborhood is to the Paleo enthusiast.
I was quite famished after a long weekend of studying so I decided to head out to a local restaurant called The Over the Bar Cafe (OTB Cafe for short). The OTB Cafe is a Pittsburgh hot spot for the hardcore cyclist and is a local favorite among outdoor groups such as Bike Pittsburgh and Venture Outdoors. This tiny little restaurant is also a proud supporter of CrossFit Athletics here in the South Side which, you guessed
it, means the the OTB Cafe is perfect for the Paleo crowd! A good friend of mine works at OTB and told me to stop in and taste test a meal from their designated Paleo Menu. So, knowing I needed to refuel for another few hours of studying, I packed up my belongings and headed down the block for some awesome Paleo eats!
Now, if you ever visit the OTB Cafe, you will actually have to ask the servers for the Paleo Menu as it is a completely separate menu from their original menu. It may not be the biggest list of items on the face of the planet, but the menu has a host of tasty treats that are hearty enough for refueling you after a workout or after hours of studying. I ended up trying their “Paleo Cog Salad” which was a sizable cobb salad loaded with chicken, bacon, avocado, mixed vegetables and and awesome house made mediterranean dressing. After reviewing some of my notes for NASM at the restaurant while I waited on my order, the generous portion of awesome arrived at my table. Take a look at what the OTB Cafe Paleo Cog Salad actually looks like in real time!
Can you say “YUM!”? This bad boy is the perfect meal for the lover of all things Paleo! If yinz ever find yourself in the South Side of Pittsburgh, please be sure to chow down at the OTB Cafe for some tasty primal eats! That about sums it up for me! As always, remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle
Special thanks to the OTB Cafe on 25th and Carson for catering to my paleo diet. You guys are awesome and I WILL be back again to eat my way through your Paleo Menu! Great work!
